Title: HRM interview with Connie Kalitta
Post by: Royce on November 06, 2016, 09:58:41 AM
He has some good things to say about his Cammer experience, and takes a shot at Ed Pink ..

Memorable quote:   "Chains don't stretch"   He sounds like a world class curmudgeon,, just like his reputation suggests

"HR] And you could compensate for the chain stretch?

CK] The chain didn’t stretch—it’s hard to stretch a chain like that. I never saw chain stretch. That was Ed Pink talking and making a mountain out of a molehill, and I kicked his ass all over the place."

What a load of shit. Sneaky Pete Robinson proved there was chain stretch. He did a whole bunch of testing at Crane Cams. If you have Car Craft's July 1969 issue, the article Putting Teeth in Your Ford talks about the testing. Sneaky Pete observed what Jay did decades later. It bothered him so much that he had a gear drive created. He also reversed the direction of one of the cams at the same time. Anyone with half a brain knows that a 6 foot long timing chain is going to stretch. Of course you're not going to see the chain stretch, when you aren't looking for it.

I shared the article a while back...

The article brought up nostalgia drags. Makes me wonder, why doesn't Jay build an old school rail? He's got the skills to do it, and the engines for it.

I definitely think the next area for Jay to pursue is Nitro

Well, I think Jay needs to do a test first...

If you can light a grand on fire, and not miss it, you're ready for nitro.

He may not have loved the Boss 429 ( per the article ), but I got a smile out of him when I had him autograph this for me. He couldn't have been nicer.
