Title: Oil pumps
Post by: 428 GALAXIE on November 04, 2016, 12:50:43 PM

Just been wondering when do you need hv  or hp oil pump. This thing comes around and goes around every site but no real answer.
I have messed around 70-80 honda motorcycles and know them like in and out but these fe:s are new territory for me.
So what do you do and what is the reason for that.

I like high volume oil pumps in my engines.  You get a little extra pressure, but not an excessive amount, over a standard pump, plus there is extra oil available if an internal leak suddenly appears in the engine (cracked rocker arm shaft, broken rocker, lifter popped out of lifter bore, etc).  I always use restrictors to the rocker arm shafts when using a high volume pump, to avoid too much oil pooling in the valve cover area.  And I always run a minimum of six quarts of oil.  Works for me - Jay

First thing after engine dissembly and analysis was was t-pan type mod to the original oil pan and minor splash shields.
And to make things clear i am  not entering next year engine masters to save couple hp from the pump to the pump, just trying figure minimum needed for me ;D.
