Title: Change headers on my 69' Country Squire
Post by: Toppa on November 01, 2016, 01:42:38 AM
hey folks,

I was one step away from buying an old header of a mustang 67' for my 390. fortunately I a look under my hood yesterday and recognized theres a beam freakin tight to my stock headers :(

So my question is:

anybody knows which headers will fit into my car?

wanna improve my flow because I read about worse powerloss cause of my mean stock headers...
second question is how much HP improvement I could expect from the swap?

lateron i could post a picture...

heres the part i wanna install : https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/ford-mustang-1967-auspuffkruemmer-fuer-390-bigblock/532334745-223-17192

Go to this website and read the individual sections about this product to see what is involved.

http://www.sandersonheaders.com/sanderson-ff391-header-set-for-ford-fe-engines.html?category_id=1087

Watch this video and listen to the discussion after the last test to figure if this is worth the effort for your particular engine.

The price for the manifolds in your Deutschland auction is a pretty good deal, but they are not going to work in your car. Maybe.

Those are 390 GT exhaust manifolds.  I don't know if they will fit, but they will not make any significant difference in power on your engine.  I tested a bunch of exhaust manifolds for my book, and the 390 GT manifolds were not much better than the stock log-type manifolds.

If you can find a set of 428 Cobra Jet exhaust manifolds, those would be a good step up in performance (assuming that they would fit).

for your book??

what will increase power in a header?

-diameter
-less turbolences

what else?

Yes Jay have Wrote a book where he compares different intakes and
headers
On the headers..... you got a 69 right? trye to find 65 factory shorty
castiron headers think they will fit your 69. Leakfree and dont rust out
like steeltube headers

Individual tubes like steel tube headers will help the most.  Here is a link to my book:

I'm talking about the ford castiron Hiperf Headers
not the log type manifolds just to clarify  Not that
big difference in power compared to steeltube
headers in a mild street engine

And i can recommend Jays Book interesting reading

uhhh im really interested in the book, but honestly, over 30 bucks for shipping  :o
but you really got my respect for the book. seems to be really professional!

so maybe some steeltube headers are available at the german aftermarket.... dont believe that hi perf. headers are available...

Yes, unfortunately shipping overseas from the US is very expensive.  It is even quite expensive going to Canada; why, I don't know...

I did a search for headers on Summit's website and this is what I came up with...

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/snh-ff391-p/overview/year/1969/make/ford/model/country-squire

The same as FElony came up with but I bet a set for a Torino of the same year would work just swimmingly.

it really looks like it wont fit... but i aint got a chance to try it... will see. first step is done: its registered now. i guess you wont believe, but this was the first problem, cause of the small numberplates and the import status. :-X :-X

Really not too bad a price for ceramic coated long tube headers for an unusual application, at least not at the sale price.

Don't get me wrong.  I know that's a lot of money and I don't know what it would cost to get to Deutschland.

I know I'd forget about the extra few hundred dollars years down the road, but I'd never ever regret having good long tube headers.
