Someone posted this cool article about a high tech FE powered Shelby over on the mustang forum. It's a great read I thought you guys might appreciate it!

Cool story of a unknown car, at least to me. Thanks!
One thing though. The big gas tank in the back seat would scare the willies out of me in an accident. Yikes!

I remember reading that article back when it came out. I remember him saying something about having Kevlar mat in the roof and under the hood to absorb police radar.

I remember that car too. Somewhere in the archives around here I should still have the magazine. If I get a chance I'll maybe try looking in the Shelby registry to see what number it was, I think I've seen it in there.

I'd love to see that magazine, back in the day that car was a big inspiration for me. I remember things from the article (PHR, I think) like "We're going to Wyoming", a pump that would pump oil into the engine in case it was running low, the big fuel tank, etc. Always wanted to be a cannonballer...

I read that original story years ago as well. What a cool car! There were tales of the thing running blacked-out at night and eluding local police - even their helicopter! Apparently there was one misadventure because a witness described the mystery car sliding backward at triple-digit speed on a back country road one night.
I wonder if that pants-soiling event inspired "Mr RPM" to park the car for 30 years?

I still have that original magazine and article stashed in one of my piles of magazines. It was a really cool article and made an influence on me as well. I remember it said at the end that the driving part was fiction, but that the car did exist as stated. It's really neat to see the same car today, owned by the same guy. I didn't care if the stories were real or not, they were just plain cool!

I remember the article/car....Thought it was pretty cool.Interesting that the car is still intact and cared for...

Like all of you, I remember that article well.

Very nice to see the car and him still exist.

The picture of the motor shows an Edelbrock water pump, I'm thinking a Vac Pump sits to the right front of intake manifold, just seems there's a lot of non-period correct stuff. The lenses that go over the center lights for infra-red?
Do Shelby's have any problem with air trapped under the hood?
It sure could make headers run cooler though with the vertical wind storm of those fans
