Title: BB Frame pedestal motor mount location
Post by: MeanMofakee on August 13, 2016, 12:13:30 PM
Hello everybody! New member here with a frame mm question. Great site with tons of great info and opinions. Been lurking for a month or so after I picked up my first build project. 67 Fairlane roller, need to decide on an engine/trans combo. After spending some time on here I want to go with an FE vs a 460. The car was originally a SB/auto. Want to do a coilover front end and the one I'm looking at you can get SB or BB mounts but they only say that they are for 429-460. Are these crossmember pedestals the same for a 390 block using 390 motormounts. Want to figure this out so I can start collecting parts. Hope that's not too stupid a question, have good fabrication skills but if I'm going to be putting on a new front end just want to save the work if I don't need to. Thanks. There will be enough stupid questions later when I get to the engine build.

I don't know for sure but I don't think the mount locations an FE would bolt right up.  Can you post a picture of the crossmember setup you are talking about?  One point of reference that I can offer is that I have used 429-460 angle iron engine cradles to mount FE engines.  These are the stands that you can put the engine on and store it on the floor, not a regular engine stand.  They mount to the engine with two of the motor mount bolts that are in the block, and two of the bellhousing bolts.  To make the 429-460 stands work I've had to drill new holes for the bellhousing bolts into the stand, but the bolts that go into the engine block in the motor mount position lined up pretty well.  So probably the engine mounts are close between the two engines...

Thanks for the reply JayB. Was looking at a TCI coilover front end for a Fairlane, (any opinions on that are welcome) I looked today and it seems they offer an option for FE mounts. I don't know if that is something they just added or I missed it before. Like I said any comments on that brand or any others are welcome.
