Title: Fuel return line
Post by: tomsfe64 on June 29, 2016, 09:33:57 AM
I'm running a holly black fuel pump in my galaxie. The pump makes a lot of noise and i wondered if it's in need of a return line to the tank to relieve it of so much back pressure. Any  thoughts?

I'm running an Holley blue (only 110 gph compared to 140 for the black), and it makes an ungodly amount of noise. It has an internal relief valve set at 14 PSI, so it won't over pressurize or over heat.

As I understand it a return does nothing for the pump, but it can provide more consistent fuel pressure and cooler fuel.

In order to use a return set-up, you must lay it out for that purpose. I don't believe the regular Holley pumps/regulators are designed with return in mind. Of course, anything's possible with a little ingenuity.

I've run the Holley red, blue and the black. All were very loud even with rubber mounts. Stepped up to the Holley hp 150 georotor pump and it is way way quieter. Well worth the extra $.

Agree the regulator needs to be specific for a return application, don't believe there is anything specific to the pumps. They put out 14 PSI and don't know or need to know if there is a return.
