i was reading the topic worn lifters and someone said it could be a flat lobe.if someone had a flat lobe and had no special tools if using factory adjustable rockers with hyd lifters with the preload set properly. would the rocker screw be screwed down further on that cam lobe?
-
i was on my way to the store to get me some mt dews and i realized that you would maybe notice that rocker dont travel as far when that valve opens.wouldnt have nothing to do with how far the rocker is screwed in because you set the valves off the bottom of the lobe.
-
most of the times when a lobe goes flat the lifter is
also worn so either the adjuster screw is screwed
down further or to much valve lash
-
even on a new motor,i put a used cam in a new motor with new lifters,800 miles on engine
-
the engine i took the cam out of busted the cylinder wall ,screw went down the carb ended up going to no 7 cylinder.would that effect the cam lobes on that cylinder if i reused the cam
-
would it make a pecking noise even if the preload was set im having trouble telling the difference between a header leak and engine noise
-
had the same thing happen on a sbc. the only damage I had was a cracked cyl. wall & the top of the piston was hammered, but no damage to the cam, lifters, pushrod or valves. Re-used them all in another motor. Just make sure you locktite the carb base screws.

thats where my screw came from too

I wouldn't think it would make noise. depends if the lifter has a hole wore through it. Put a dial indicator on a few good lobes & compare it to the lobes in question. a flat lobe you should see immediately.

i checked the temps of each cylinder and they were all real close to each other, and i pulled the plug wires on the cyls. in question and the rpms dropped alot just like the rest.i have a very old set of headers hooked to a new 3 inch exhaust could it be a crack in my header or something, the other side cracked years ago when the front was lower i drug it on the curbs many times,it cracked and i had to put a bandaid on it.
-
its a tight fit in my comet i cant inspect the header without spending a day taking it off.i dont have as much get up and go as i did 40 years ago when i got my first fomoco product a 67 cougar.some of my friends still call me cougar
