Yesterday was fluids day on the P-Code project. Bled the brakes and gear oil in the rear end and transmission. Later, we were surprised to see a small spot of gear oil on the floor at the back of the trans and thought we had a seal problem but everything was dry in that area.
We used a plumb bob to locate where it was coming from and it is at the very back of the output yoke behind the u-joint. Is there a vent in the yoke there? ww

Only vent on a toploader I know of is on the top cover and that must be in working order or you can push oil out during operation. Since you are referring to this as a project I would assume you haven't driven it though. The front driveshaft yoke is hollow for a good portion of course but I don't know whether there's a passage where oil could seep all the way to the end to come out at the u joint. It seems unlikely, but if the trans is over full and/or there is enough play between the output shaft splines and the inputs on the yoke then oil could get past. I've got a spare DK yoke at home, will have to check that out of curiosity. Someone else probably knows for sure.

I've seen some yokes that are hollow all the way through with a flat "freeze" plug in the very end right at the u joint. If you got that type maybe the plug is leaking ?

I've seen that plug in the end of the yoke too. Warren, maybe try cleaning that area and applying a little RTV to solve the problem.

+ 3 on the plug..
