Title: Latest addition to the family
Post by: AlanCasida on May 03, 2016, 05:17:46 PM
This is why I can't get my Mustang finished! I bought this off of PurpleWave auction today and will pick it up Friday. It's got a 352/cruiso in it and looks pretty clean overall.

Yeah I dunno, maybe I'm weird, but I'd rather have that truck than just about any Mustang.
Great score.

That is a beauty!  Is it a '66?  Some day I will own a 66 F-250 4X4...

Yes it's a '66. I just love this body style and in black only. I Used to have a black '66 F100 Ranger with the factory bucket seats and console but like an idiot I sold it. :( This truck appears to be in just the right condition for me. It looks nice but I can still use it as a truck. It'll be just a cruiser. If the drivetrain proves to be original I'll most likely leave the 352/cruiso in it. No Hotrod stuff, just a stocker.  8)

I had a '66 like that back in the early 80s, painted Royal Maroon.  South Dakota truck, almost no rust.  Same 352/Cruiso as yours.  Sold it for $2600 because I needed the money.  Another one of those vehicles I wish I had back...

Nice truck, Alan. I've owned quite a few '61-'66s over the years, several of them '61/'62 unibodys. I never knew you could get that body style with bucket seats and a console. IMO, next to the '67-'72s, those years were the best trucks Ford ever made. SUPER dependable and easy to work on.

I learned to drive in a 66 FORD F100 with a stick and a 6, of course. I was 12 years old. My dad taught me in the back woods while hunting, in case something were to happen I guess. I thought I was pretty big stuff getting into 3rd gear. When I was 14 I would take the truck into town and get a load of lumber at the yard and deliver it to the job site... without a license. Oh to live in a small town in the 70's...

Awesome Alan.
Learned to drive in my dad's '65.
There'll always be a soft spot in my heart for those years.

Sweet!  8) Hopefully your floorboards aren't rusted through. Seems to be a common issue. Love the black with the chrome. Slick!

My first "car" was a '63 "wrong-box".  Three-on-a-tree and 292 turned 312 by Gramps himself.  Former farm truck from the family farm, no exhaust, no seat belts, irrigation tires on it and a tow-bar to drag it behind the combine or whatever.  Door panels filled with mouse motels from locally sourced bench seat stuffing.  The shift forks were worn out and if you didn't do your 1-2 shift correct, you'd get to burn the hair off the back of your hand re-aligning the forks under the hood in front of the highschool girlfriends.   Ah, good times....  Love those early 60's Fords!

Since I bought it sight unseen it's a crap shoot. I am preparing for the worst when I go get it. As long as the outside body looks as good as it does in the pictures the floors, cab mounts, radiator support...etc. won't be a big deal. As I said, it's just going to be a driver/cruiser.  8)

I had a 65 4x4 352.  ran great I just couldn't drive it the steering wheel was just in my stomach all the time.  im not skinny and im not that fat either.  for me it was just an example of how much smaller people were at the time.   that is a really nice 66.  kudos to you

Well that didn't last long, keeping it stock that is. And I don't even have it home yet.  See what happens when you accumulate a whole bunch of parts over the years. I was thinking today if the motor in that truck is not too good I could rebuild it or even swap out the good running 390 that's in the '67 F250. Then I thought, "Wait a minute, I have fresh 428CJ motor sitting in the  65 'Stang that will need a home after I get it painted and I have some shortie headers and a ready to go 3.70 28 spline trac loc and a spare C6 and a GV unit.....Oh wait, I have a ready to go 460PI motor sitting on the floor right now and I have the frame and engine mounts and headers from when I had it in the '67 briefly. I probably even have the shortened driveshaft for the GV laying around somewhere." Hmmmmm...this is sounding like more fun all the time. :)
