Got to be an awesome view having the tires on both sides literally inches from your head. I imagine the primitive respirator filters in those days were hardly capable of cutting down the nitro-fumes and burning rubber.
Had dinner in a steak house in Gainesville after a day at Gator Nationals, Big Daddy was seated at the table beside us. I remember explaining to her almost "all" the Top Fuel drivers had scarred faces back then.
If I recall that CAR CRAFT cover shot w/Snake was part of feature that went into on-board measuring data recording of a fueler --- that was pretty much the first time it was ever done....

I'm looking at the front cover on this one and it is definitely not stock. I can see two round covers, positioned right over where the fuel pump gear and tensioner gear would normally be. Is that a photo of Sneaky Pete's car, with the gear drive setup maybe?
-
Yes, that is Pete Robinson's Tinker Toy (you can barely see the Y in Toy on the cowl) with the gear drive front cover.

Yes, that's Pete Robinson's "Tinker Toy". You can just barely see the "Toy" on the cowl in that shot. In keeping with our tire spinning theme, here's another photo of Pete's dragster. That Cammer just looks like a monster in there!

Back in the day when sex was safe and Hot Rods were dangerous.

try to find one of those cragar blowers. I have been looking for years and I cant even find a piece.
-
The first photo was in an article in Car Craft, it was Garlits tire testing with the Goodyear Blue-Streaks in 1965, that were about to render pie-crusts and smoky full quarter passes a thing of the past. Historic photo right there, marked a revolutionary change in drag racing technology.

I just stumbled across this a week ago. I realize you are probably looking for cammer stuff, but someone is re-popping the Chrysler and chevy intakes.

that's the first I have seen of cragar stuff in a long long time to be honest. and as I was reading the lites of heaven were shining down, and I will just get a Cleveland blower intake seeing I have one of jays adapters. ::)
-
That is almost enough to make me build a blown early chrysler, just so I can run that intake!!

I agree falcon George. its just something I noticed for quite a few years now. the cragar engine parts have just disappeared.
