Title: Cam bearing orientation
Post by: matt souders on April 09, 2016, 09:25:26 PM
Started putting together my short block but having questions now of the way I installed the cam bearings. Number 1 is obvious.  But 2-5,I put at 3 o'clock as per Barry's book. ( he said 2-4 are normally installed at 3 o'clock because of the oil groves in the block) Mine has an oil groove in the 5'th Bering journal also so I installed it at o'clock also. Is this right?

Three o'clock seems to be the most logical
Here's some info I found awhile back

Thanks for the reply and the link. If there's no objections to this positioning I'm going to proceed. But also in Barry's book he mentioned about checking camshaft endplay, but never gives a tolerance or corrective action. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
