Title: A new FE head
Post by: ScotiaFE on March 24, 2012, 06:36:00 PM
I was sent some pictures of a new FE head. The pictures are NOT mine.
Interesting.
There was no picture of the intake ports.
I believe these are being cast in South Korea, because we all know the FE is HUGE in Asia.  ::)

That is very interesting; looks kind of like a knock of Edelbrock's head, but still different.  Any information on who is making these or when they might become commercially available?

There was a little discussion about them on the other place and I said I would put up
the pics there and thought hey this needs to go here also. LOL
I don't have anymore info than the pics.
They do look alot like ED's, but a few differences.
Cost and availability will be the big factor in how well they do.
Barry R did say he was in the loop, but was not giving up any info as of yet.

I was power washing the 390 I took out of the white Fairlane today, so my small FE projects most likely don't include
a new set of Aluminum heads for any of my junk right now. :P

On a side note the Ladies Ford World Curling Championship is going on right now in Canada.
And the South Korean Ladies are going for the gold and in the lead right now.
Curling is huge in Canada, I guess its huge in South Korea.

They do look mighty good. The more the merrier, I say.

That said, I wonder however how well these will sell in today's market as the have lots of competition, especially among the racier LR-MR based heads now available.  They will sell as I'll venture they can undercut E-Bock's head a bit. On the race side, a number of shops offer CNC Edel-B porting to the std. and Pro-Port heads already, meaning one can almost design their own custom ports, within the limits of the casting of course. Then one also has the BT heads, Pond's heads, etc.  Frankly, the still-born billet FE that was highlighted over on old Forum a few years ago was more exciting as it offered radical changes to just about every aspect of the basic Ford design with CHI/AFD/Cleveland-like intakes, Yates-type tiny combustion chamber, straightened out exhaust port (i.e. #1 and #2 ports no longer angle towards each other) and more.

'Course, just how many radical heads (a wet version of the above or modernized HR/TP heads) could the market support? Not many or not enough to make any volume run or these specialized heads.

Did you guys notice the wide spacing on the valves? look at the stand hight. I think this head is closer to a BT head. I hope this sends ED to the update room to make a victor FE head that will match the performance of the victor intake.

What I would like to see on the FE head is an exhaust port with the floor not rounded over.  It really hurts the flow at low lifts because it causes separation of the airflow and causes it to cling to the port at differing lifts.  Also, if it were shaped for a more rounded roof would help also.  Anyway, it does need a revamping of the exhaust to get the bias up to 70+% for best performance.  Joe-JDC.

I was sent the picture of the intake port.
Someone was drilling and tapping to many holes in it.

The head in the pictures is ungoing revisions right now.  The images are of a prototype which may or may not be usable on an engine with some work.

This is only one of at least a couple FE heads currently in the development process.  Things should get interesting in the fall...

Who would have belived that in the 80s
when all said the FE was dead and that
in 10 years you would be unable to find
parts for them
