Title: changing from man. fuel pump to elec.

im going to a electric fuel pump.can i leave my man. pump on and leave it hooked up or can i leave it on not hooked up or do i have to put a plate over the fuel pump hole?

You *can* either:
1. Leave it in place and just add an electric pump
2. Leave it in place and bypass the manual pump
3. Block off the area on the timing cover and add your electric fuel pump

Pros and cons:
1. I would always be worried because you are only a small piece of rubber from pumping the crankcase full of gasoline.  I guess the good part is if the electric pump crapped out, you could always just disconnect it.  Another negative is that the gasoline would still be picking up a lot of engine heat.

2. This scenario is obviously easiest.  The only downside is you now have a vestigial fuel pump.

3. This is the cleanest install and the one I use.  I make a block off plate out of 16gauge sheet, some rtv and some shorter bolts (they don't need to be as long because you no longer have the pump in place).
With a cutting wheel on an angle grinder, you can cut one out in 30 seconds (Use a gasket for a template).  Either drill or use a punch for the bolt holes, and just clean it all up on the bench grinder.....

My car has an electric feeding the manual, activated by a toggle switch on the dash. If the car has been sitting a few days, or if it's hot enough outside to court v-lock, I use the electric. The manual pump appears to work fine pulling gas through the electric when it is not on.

thanks for the info.i sure hope the old saying[you cant teach an old dog new tricks]aint true because i am learning alot right now on this forum

WAAAAAYYYYYY  O/T - but I had to say it....

fryedaddy... that period in the title... the one right after the word "man" - kinda makes the title read in a way that makes me snicker every time I read it... 

I guess my living out the the ole axiom "you can only be young once - but you can be immature forever" is on full display...   Just had to share my chuckle...

BBC fuel pump block off plate is the same as the FE
