Title: 422 or 423ci
Post by: wadesfarm1 on February 14, 2016, 08:55:58 PM
I am building a 4.110 bore 3.98 stroke fe, I was just wondering what 422.42ci should be rounded off to so I can write it on my car.

Call it a 352 police or a 332 cj. When they ask why tell them so the chevies can keep up 8)

For rounding purposes, it is closer to 422, and would be called 422.  Having said that, some places require that any part of a cubic inch above a whole number must be rounded up to the next number, ie. EMC rules.  Technically you have a 422 cubic inch engine, but if you were to enter it in EMC competition, you would have to declare it as 423 cubic inches.  Actually, what you have is a 410 that is +.060".  What do you want it to be?  That is the real answer.  Joe-JDC

I personally like to use the original cubic inch designation so people know what it came from.. such as a 427 fe. It's more informative to know it's a 427 than 430 etc.

My 445 car wears 390 badges.  I replaced the 427 badges that were on it to stop purists from looking for evidence of cross bolted mains.  Now, the only problem I have is what to do about the "X" (352) in my VIN or the fact that I'm running a toploader in place of the original automatic :-\.  In the end, I say call it what you want to.  When you essentially assemble your own that's how it should be anyway IMO.

Can you get Mileage Maker Six badges?
That would really confuse people.

When I had a .030 427 block and a 428 crank in my Mustang it was a 454 incher.

When guys would ask how big my motor was I'd say "60 over 390".

They didn't realize I meant 60 cubic inches bigger.:)

Right on Tommy....
plus if you said it was a 454, someone certainly would have spouted off about how "You got some common sense throwing a Chevy engine in dat car."

I agree with my namesake who also has a 64 FE. It's a 410. We don't need to be like the 355 Chevy guys.
