Milling down just enough to remove the lettering, and leaving as much material as possible surrounding the two bolt holes, can the Edelbrock engraving be safely milled off the face/end of the cylinder head?
-
I've never tried that, but there is no reason it couldn't be done. I don't think I'd hesitate to do it if I really wanted the logo gone.
-
The last time I was at Gessford Machine Shop, they had a pair of heads they removed the logo from with no problems. When/if I ever get a pair that is what I an going to have done.
-
Barry R might stop in here sometime soon and add to this, but I've seen work he's done that, among other things, has had the milling operation you describe. He has no problem with doing so.

I had that done to my Edelbrock heads.

I wish I had had Barry do that to mine while they were at his shop. 8)

Maybe you could fill the logo in, with JB weld or something similar, and paint over it?

That's what I was thinking too. After recently hearing about how well J.B. Weld has worked in other situations
(fixing damaged fins on a valve cover) maybe clean the area with acetone, add Weld, then power sand down with a 4x5 sander. Heck, then one could even do this on the car with one of those mini sanders for corners, the ones with the triangular shaped head.
-
I bet it would work. And if it didn't the worst that would happen would be the JB Weld falling out. Maybe punch some dimples or otherwise roughen up the area to give it more purchase?

The same is done for head codes like C8AE-H on Edelbrock heads ;D
-
No problem at all. We do it all the time. Vertical riser insert on the Bridgeport make it easy to stand a head upright.
-
Barry, I've never seen a vertical riser insert for a Bridgeport. You don't happen to have a photo of that, do you?
-
Don't have a pic of mine handy - but there are a couple 8" ones on ebay right now.
Not expensive or fancy - just kinda heavy and fun to install.

Thanks Barry. Yikes, imagine installing THAT thing... :D

Hey, way cool Barry! Knew they existed but never saw one before.

On a similar note, Edelbrock logo can be removed from Streetmaster and Edelbrock water pump. Not really trying to fool anyone, just maintain more stock look and lose weight on front. This 9.5 C.R. 390 is not a sleeper….it is mostly asleep.

Used die grinder with aluminum burrs, lots of emery paper on wood stick and retextured with sand blasting.

I did mine in approx 10-15 Min each. About the same time to do the Edel water pump too.

They are removed on my 482 with no problem.

I removed the logo on my "E" heads at work on our horizontal boreing mill...Took longer to set it up than it took to do the cut..Took off .015 to remove the logo..Very simple and quick to do...
I see no reason why JB Weld/Devcon or Marine Tex couldnt be used to fill the lettering..They all should tolerate the heat.

Thanks to everyone for the input. A lot of nice looking engines as well.
