Title: Ebay ad using a picture of my car.
Post by: hvywrench on January 01, 2016, 10:11:08 PM
There is an Ebay ad for windshield trim and misc parts that has a picture of my car as a teaser.
It is NOT my listing and I am NOT an Ebay user.
Just didn't want someone to think they were dealing with me.

No, the guy used what appears to be a still "capture" of a video of Bill's car. Not exactly the way things should be done ethically, but then again it's Ebay ::)

Still one of my favorite videos of all time.

I guess I should have composed that better. I can see where it isn't clear at all. As Doug said, he is using a picture of my car, probably to give an idea as to what the windshield parts look like on a '64. He doesn't have permission, but the car video and pictures are in the public domain.
I didn't want anyone to see the ad and think that I was selling pieces of the car. Sorry for the confusion.

Once the picture is in the public domain, there's not much you can do about something like this.  I had something similar happen on ebay, related to the intake manifold testing I posted on the FE Forum back in 2006.  A couple people referenced my name and results that were posted on the FE Forum when trying to sell their Streetmaster intake manifolds on ebay.  They were worded in such a way that it almost appeared as if I was endorsing the auctions!  Maddening...

That pesky Hotrod Magazine keeps using pictures of Jay's cars to sell their ragged ole magazines as well.....  reckon that is just the price of fame.

so... this guy had all kinds of gal. stuff for sale (at ridiculous prices) & they were all buy nows. checked this morning & they are all gone. I had asked him a question on the trim parts if the whole car was for sale & no response. go figure.

My Nephew tried to fill out and submit the form that ebay uses to prevent the use of copyrighted material and found that the auction had ended.
Maybe the fella got a lot of grief from folks that contacted him about the car pic?? Dunno...

I don't think I've seen it before, is there a link to the video?

If you have a fast connection watch in HD and it has good sound. This is a 'cleaner' version than the YouTube.

What?!?  someone on a car forum hasn't seen that video linked 45 times?

It's still great, your nephew (?) did a fantastic job, it is personal and easy to relate to even if you aren't into cars.
