Hah!. That is pretty good. Don't know how many YouTube vids exist for old NASCAR pit stops, say ala' 1955-1962 or so. Slow indeed and often the teams enlisted any local drunkard to change the tires, etc. No kidding!
By '65 IIRC it was the Woods Brothers who started to formalize all aspects of the now specialized full-time pit crew, timing of the stop, tools etc. that vogue'd into what we have today. Ford had the Woods team do Jimmy Clark's pit stops in '65 at the Indy 500 and they absolutely smoked all the other Offy teams and similar Ford Lotus teams.

The Wood Brothers from the NASCAR Grand National circuit, were invited by Ford Motor Company to work the pit stops for Team Lotus (drivers Jim Clark and Bobby Johns).[12] Their arrival at the Speedway was quickly recognized and much reported. They were well known for their rapid pit stop work in NASCAR, and their presence immediately created a stir in the garage area. It took them only a short time to acclimate themselves to the open wheel championship cars' equipment.
Their contributions to the victory, however, have been considered overstated by media and others alike.[13][14][15] Historians agree that Clark's Lotus-Ford was capable of winning the race handily with or without the added help of the Wood Brothers. In fact, the only work done on the cars was routine refueling, as they did not need to change tires during the race.[16] Clark made only two stops all day, and the quickness of the refueling process was largely attributed to a specially-designed gravity fueling rig with a venturi tube. One of the things they did do ahead of time was to "break in" the new fueling hose nozzles by simply working them in and out of the coupling for a period of time.

I will say that on most days, Steve changed the tires at Drag Week with alacrity ;D

At PRI for at least a couple years in Orlando they had a wheel and tire combo from Michael Schumacher's F1 car you could handle easily with one hand.............

I have an alacrity but I usually use a 'quick-up' floor jack and an air-powered impact. ;)

We should have put one of those time lapse cameras on Steve when he changed the Shelby from street trim to race ready.

That was cool to watch. You could see how much wider the old tires were compared to the fresh new ones. They must have worn an inch of rubber off to make it that much wider :o
I think it would make F1 much more interesting if they were still using drunks to do pit stops.

For Joel you need a tracking device. When we got to the tracks he was off wandering around before I could get the trunk open. Kinda like a teenager when you ask them to do a chore around the house.

Steve, I had something like that once, but not on Drag week. A prescription of amoxicillin cleared it up in a week.

ooh, I miss a day on the FE Fi Fo Rum, and you guys dog pile me! Jeff is right tho, as soon as I step out of the car, a throng of fans gathers, and I don't want to let them down. It's hard to be this humble. The Professor of FEology speaks the truth. He needed a slow motion camera to capture the blur of activity that was formerly known as Trunk Monkey. ;D

Actually, a slow motion camera will make very slow movements appear fast. Like a time lapse camera, former trunk monkey ;D
