Okay is it set in stone where the driveshaft hoop needs to be placed under the car? This is on my 64 Fairlane tbolt clone. The rear incorperates the hoop on the traction bars but I believe You have to run one in the front to be legal for NHRA class.

IIRC the rules state 6 inches behind the front U joint.
Don't have a book on me right now tho'.
-
Marc is correct, with a little clarification - rule is WITHIN 6 inches of the center of front u-joint. So for example 2" behind, 4" behind, etc. up to 6" all good. Just pointing it out because sometimes a floor brace, emergency brake cable, and so on might be in the way at exactly the 6" spot. And although not required by the rules for most cars, a rear loop like you have is a good thing. I've seen race cars break a driveshaft in half and that foot or two of spinning broken rear shaft attached to the rear end will absolutely tear the floor out of a car until you get it stopped.

Memories tell me it has to be 2 inches wide and of at least 1/8 inch thickness.
-
Okay That works for me, I guess I made it overkill as it`s 1/4" material.
-
No, you did just fine. 2" x 1/4" if flat steel or 7/8" .065 wall welded steel tubing is the rule. I was remiss for forgetting that detail, thanks to Steve P. for bringing it up. And Steve's memories are legendary, but not always something you want to rely on ;)

yes it is set in stone where it has to be. I switched from a top loader to a g force g101 and did not move the loop. the tech guy had a fit. it was 8 in from the u joint instead of 6 in. he said I could run it like that for the weekend, but you better have it changed by next time you come back. I have moved it twice since. if you run an automatic they might not even look

How do you like the G 101 ? I'm thinking king of reading my jerico with one.

g101 was light years ahead of the face plate/pro shift top loader as far as shifting goes. for some reason the teeth would fall off low gear. got about 50 passes on it before it blew up the second time, total loss. I have a lenco now.

What do you think about the ST 1200 lenco, ? I have considered one of those as well, had a line on a jeffco last ear and let it get away from me :-\
