Title: Western Dragweek junior
Post by: turbohunter on November 13, 2015, 03:42:57 PM
Does anyone know anything about the attempt at a western 3 day drag weekend?
Did it indeed happen? Didn't see a link on the Hot Rod site.

It did happen. Hot Rod didn't have a live feed like Drag Week but they did have daily updates and some video. I think the Hot Rod staffers went right from Drag Weekend to the SEMA show so they were a little late giving the final results, but I saw that report too. If you scroll back through Hot Rods website or Facebook page you should find the coverage.

They must have been disappointed in the turnout but it ran OK.

I think a couple things that hurt the turnout was that it wasn't a round trip tour back to the first track like they have been doing at DragWeek ( except for the first year ) and that the last leg to California was a killer distance wise. It will be interesting to see what they come up with in the future, it's such a long way between tracks in the Southwest. Holding it in the Pacific Northwest would probably be do-able.

Between Pacific (SIR), Bremerton, Woodburn,& Portland International, thats 4 tracks within about 3 hours of each other. All reasonably close to I5  freeway. Mission BC is about 2/1/2 -3 hours North from Pacific, Yakima WA SouthEast a ways. I`d seriously look at  putting something together for something like that, but the regular DragWeek  would require me to drive about 2500 miles just to reach the starting point. Not very realistic for a working guy who also races locally on a regular basis and works some weekends. Not interested in planning my entire race season around 1 week, plus 2 weeks of getting there and back. Also, if Drag Week went to a different region each year, I`m sure there would be a much more varied group of cars.

That's why I was curious about the weekend deal.
The format appeals to me and if it was a bit more local to us SoCal guys it would be cool.

That close, then they should make you run two tracks a day :)
