I have a timing cover and balancer with the built in pulley off a 60 352 on my motor, and wander if they make a timing tape for the balancer.
-
Summit/Jeg's and others sell a wide variety of tapes based upon the exact diameter of your balancer and not by say the Ford part #. E-Bay sellers IIRC has them as well.
-
One thing I'd recommend once you find your tape - clean the rim of the balancer, then accurately locate TDC. I would not rely on the stock marks. After installing the tape, shoot the rim with clear rattle can paint, about 2-3 light coats. That will keep the tape on the balancer and give it a long life.

thanx guys, I will measure again and find one

Isn`t that a really thin balancer? If so, I don`t think a timing tape is available, and even if it was, it would be so narrow, it would be very hard to see the numbers.
-
yes its the real thin one. Its in awesome condition and im using the 60 steel timing cover and don't want to change it. Colin suggests I make more marks on the balancer so I can get more then 10* timing marks on it.
-
Some machine shops have the capability of adding more marks to your balancer, if the tape thing doesn't work out. It was common years ago before we had so many aftermarket balancers to choose from.
-
As I noted in another thread, cleaning the balancer and marking 0 well, then using a dial back timing light saves a lot of hassle.

, I have put countless timing tapes on my 390, well maybe 3, lol, they'll stay on till approx 3500- 4000 rpm than they pull loose and the timing pointer destroys them, I've carefully installed them removing All the paint and cleaning the bare metal with lacquer cleaner, I've contacted jeggs and they have replaced them no charge, I'm to try 1 more and I'm going to take Chris advice and spray a coat of clear paint over it.

When you get a clean surface, using some good adhesive such as HyBond or some 3M bonding agents would work well (the names of the well known ones escapes me right now). Those things stick pieces together VERY well.
To Rick, you could always trim the tape down with a razor blade and a straight edge. Using a tape would be a good idea anyway. That way, once you've located TDC, you can see if that 55 year old balancer is slipping. Hopefully you checked its accuracy with TDC before installing it?

yes it was a pretty much new old balancer, and it has marks to 30* on it once I got the surface rust off,, all good
