Title: Canton windage tray
Post by: ToddK on November 12, 2015, 04:15:17 AM
Has any one used the new Canton louvred windage tray, part #20-938P? I know their screen type tray will clear a stroker bottom end, was wondering if the new screen will do the same.

That's the same one I used on my 504. With a 4-3/8 stroke the rod bolts clear by 3/16 or so.

Thanks Jason. Mine's a 4.25" stroke, so I'll give it a go.

If there's ever a time to use a c8ax-6675-a Muscleparts Pan its when using a screen type windage tray. There's so much wind that makes it past the tray the physical wall/stripper get a real chance to work.

I built a couple different short blocks using that Canton louvered tray. Both were 4.250 stroke cranks, one hit and one didn't. It wasn't much and I made it clear, but it had to do with the rod bolts themselves. They were also two different manufacturers H-beam rods. The Callies Compstar with L19 bolts cleared, the Eagle "3D" with L19 bolts did not. Interestingly enough the Eagle's bolts had a larger head on it. It only hit on two rods. I just pried the tray up until I had about .060 clearance and ran it. There was no indication of any witness marks upon teardown.

I think the louvered tray that had clearance issues was the Moroso early on, not sure though as I have never used them. The Canton screen trays cleared when I have used those with 4.250 cranks and SCAT rods.
