Title: Cam lobe damage

I think this roller cam is usable with a slight soft cleanup.  It's the only damage and the rest of the lobe looks perfect. What do you guys think ? Is it usable?  How would you go about cleaning it up ?

Nope, need to send it back to mfg for regrind, or shelve it.  It will only get worse, and take out the next lifter you put on it very quickly. When a roller lifter lets go, bad things happen all over the bottom end. BTDT.  Joe-JDC

A roller axle failed and came partially out of a comp cams roller lifter. I have also had comp cams full skirt lifters crack or break, lucky not in a critical place but it's never good having pieces laying around in the engine.  I switched to crane lifters about 5 years ago that only has the partial skirt were the link bar goes and haven't had a problem since. I have never ran the morel lifters before but most of the guys here seem to use them so that will be my next set.

Thanks Joe. I was hoping to make a couple bucks, I'll pass the info on to the prospective buyer though. Maybe I can make a mailbox post out of it.. oh well.    :-\

I wonder if the cracked cam thrust plate was caused when the lifter went astray, jamming the cam's nose into the plate. Agree that that lobe needs manufacturer help in a big way.
