This block is a 4.050 bore, cast for cross bolt support, I'm thinking it must have been some kind of industrial block because it hasn't been bored yet it has very thin and inconsistent cylinder walls. Some areas are as thin as the .110 range and it would take at least .030 to clean up even if 3 cylinders were not showing cracks. Not a desirable part, a shame really. My question is was it common for early blocks to only have #3 and #4 be the only two main bearing registers supported by the extra webbing ? The #2 main doesn't have the extra Web.

What you probably have is a Industrial block. If there was some sort of defect such as core shift, porosity, fissures and perhaps in your case with the std. bore thin cylinders it would not be suitable for passenger car/truck use. Ford would build them for industrial use such as stationary pump, electrical generators. wind generators or any other application that the engine ran at a steady low rpm, usually under 2000-2500 rpm and moderate load. At one time a good source of rare odd-ball engines was the Napa wine country that used industrial wind generators in the vineyards. Some were HD 361- 391s and on rare occasions a 428 engine could be found.

The C3 and the 105 are both ends of the spectrum.
The C3 was kind of like the second generation of the FE block casting and when they started doing the cross bolts so
there would have been probably a lot of odd castings coming off the line.
The 105 was the last of the FE castings. Although you can find some odd castings in the 105 line also.
I have an odd 105 in my pile of junk. It's "SPECIAL". ;)

The 105's are what I'm use to seeing as far as extra webbing. Have had several standard "352" blocks with the extra webbing as well. I'm thinking the block I have pictured was a earagation block or something along those lines as well. Just was odd to see that only #3 and #4 had the extra webbing.
Got a love those ""special"" blocks.. lol. Always a good feeling to find something special.

That webbing isn't THAT weird.
I have a C4AE-A block with NO other markings with the same webbing. It does not say 352 on the front, or anything really....
