Title: Tunnel ram carbs
Post by: turbohunter on October 26, 2015, 04:00:54 PM
Question for you gentlemen.
Building a tunnel ram 440 (428 block).
Thinking about carbs, I figured a set of center squirter Holleys (600ish cfm)
Haven't picked a cam yet but trying to figure out where and what brand to buy.
Would be happy to hear who you guys think is doing a good job with race carbs these days.

Pretty hard to beat the old Holley 660 Center Squirters. List # 4224. A lot of them still being used by racers. I think they are still available new or check local Craigslist, swap meets etc. I believe Jay found they worked so well he used them for most of his testing of the factory 2-4v manifolds in his book, he can maybe comment on his observations. I don't have any info on the newer Quick Fuels, etc. I think Barry, Brent, Blair all have carbs available.

+1 on the 4224's, but don't even THINK about driving them on the street. They are basically on/off carbs, with no in between manners. Great for big cams, big gears and WOT though. Word to the wise, be careful if you're looking at a used pair. If they have been tinkered with by someone trying to get them to work on a street engine, they are likely messed up and of very little use.
