I'm sure Jay for one is glad they revised this design.

Here's a topic that discusses it in detail. Very interesting.

Gee Jeff, did you think us FE guys were going to have trouble with that one? ;D

Didn't even take 5 minutes!

The breather coming out of the left top of the timing cover.
Hey, nobody else mentioned it! :)

Those early heads produced very disappointing power - something like 50 HP improvement over a good high riser. The thought was to put the spark plug in the center above all else, but it messed up the port flow. Once they abandoned the centered spark plugs, and started optimizing the ports, the engine quickly reached its potential.
A pair of those early heads came up for sale on eBay several years ago. I wonder how they got out??

Plug location, been talked about before! It may be in the SOHC SAE papers, I would have to check.

The set I had went out the 'back door' at EEE---a very long time ago.

How about the Galaxie coolant reservoir bolted to the intake. Can't do that with a regular 4v intake.

it's sitting aside of a 62 Impala. Most chevys scattered like roaches when a cammer showed up. Right?
