oh, one last thing. i mentioned changing to electronic ignition and i'm leaning towards a pertronix ignitor III distributor http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/pnx-d7133800/overview/make/ford and matching coil http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/pnx-45001/overview/. they seem good 'bang for the buck' what with not needing a seperate ignition box but still having multi spark and adjustable rev limiter. has anyone used them and what are your thoughts? thanks and sorry for all the questions, neil.

I installed this distributor in my street-duty-only 67 Cyclone 390; no issues but be aware that it is considerably taller (from the base of the intake manifold to the top of the cap) than the stock Ford unit.

I had a Petronix III distributor fail on me after 20 minutes, the rev limiter would kick in at 4000rpm. I tried all the checks and adjustments that the Petronix rep told me, but still no good. I had to return the distributor to Petronix at my expense (Australia to California), and after 4 weeks I received a new distributor. I have not used it, since I ended up buying a MSD distributor which works well.
As mentioned, the Petronix distributor is taller than both a factory or MSD distributor.

I bought the Pertronix Ignitor III kit to put in my Ford dual point distributor. I also have the flamethrower III coil. So far no issues at all. Took maybe 15 mins. to install and works great. Make sure to check timing after you swap one of these kits, mine ended up from about 15-16°Adv. to 4°Ret. at idle! I have the rev limiter set off on mine for now.

thanks for that, i'm still happy with the choice. cheers, neil.
