hi everyone, i thought i ought to let you see what we do with fe motors here in england. this is my altered wheelbase gasser my friend scott and i have built. it has a mild (for now) 390, c6 and a 9" out back. the front is a straight tube. we built the full chassis and cage along with all of the suspension/steering parts. there is a full build here http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/garage/105e-estate-awb-gasser-64485. here's a pic of the car as it is now

Way, way cool! Keep us up to date.

Welcome to the site. That looks like a WILD RIDE. Do you have a video of any runs down the track?
-
Very, very nice, thanks for sharing that. I expect it takes a lot of dedication to follow the FE path in England.
Is it close to being a street-able hot rod or a track toy only?
-
cheers guys,i've got some work to do before next season. swap back to 750 carb, new ignition setup, a small sniff of nitrous and a rolling road session. that ought to improve on the 12.6 so far. it's only been out twice since we finished it but the important thing is it launches and runs straight so i'm happy to put more power into it now.
various names were suggested during the build like 'angrier' but i liked 'russian roulette' as sooner or later it could all go horribly wrong.
here's a vid my son in law took from the startline, watch carefully at the top end as the tailgate comes wide open...... oops we'll check that next time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVbmLGNuPHM
yes fe stuff is rare and expensive here in the uk, but your suppliers are only a phone call or mouse click away so it's all good.
and lastly a weekends work would see it road legal but that would compromise it's track use so i guess i'll need to build another gasser for road use (with an fe of course!), oh dear i am upset.

They would love the car at the Melt Down Drags.....

thanks for that and there are some very cool cars there for sure ;D
-
that is a sweet gasser, I love the big metal flake paint.
-
Very cool car and color! Wow, that trunk lid (boot?) needs some taming!
-
thanks guys, the flake came from a shop near us that makes fairground rides so is larger than is normally used on cars. i love it, it's cool 8). i got a local guy to paint the signwriting on too as decals just wouldn't look right to me. as for the trunk opening it sure made me jump when it slammed shut again, we'll have to check it's closed fully in the future ;).
-
That is incredibly, unbelievably, spectacularly cool!

thanks barry :), i just wish i had the money for one of your engines to go in it :'(
-
Very cool. That takes some real dedication and perseverance to build and FE on that side of the pond! Posts like this give me motivation for my projects!
Thanks for sharing. Best of luck, and don't forget to latch that trunk lid (boot lid?) Haha!
-
thanks jake ;), and yes cores are few and far between over here for sure :(

happy christmas to you all and have a great new year.
i've ordered the new distributor and coil from summit and sorted a rolling road for the new year. just need to get the nitrous kit ordered in the next week or so then i'm ready for next season.
-
finally there's something to report. the new pertronix III distributor and coil arrived this morning. only ordered from summit on the 23rd and here in england on the 29th despite the christmas break. plus a $20 off your next order voucher too which will come in handy when i order the nitrous kit soon ;D

Kool Car!
I've had great reliability with Pertronix junk.
-
thanks, yes we've fitted a few pertronix conversions to points distributors and never had a problem either 8)

started on the list of jobs this week. first the distributor change, what a performance that was. 2 hours later and it was out in lots of bits, boy was it stuck. once the top broke off i removed the inlet and ended up welding a large fwd driveshaft nut to the shaft so i could lever it out.
(http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p609/50mercury/anglia%20gasser%20and%20willys%20gasser%20002_zpsz4naer1v.jpg) (http://s1158.photobucket.com/user/50mercury/media/anglia%20gasser%20and%20willys%20gasser%20002_zpsz4naer1v.jpg.html)
while the inlet (edelbrock streetmaster) was off i noticed the 'ears' were still there so i've made a start removing them and laying the runner dividers back to suit. 2 corners done, 2 to do. while it's off i'll port match it too, may as well make the most of what i have.

Wow, what a brutal distributor removal! I hate it when they are stuck like that. Have you test fit the new one yet? Use some lubricant..
You will pick up some power with that Streetmaster modification.
-
I don't ever recall seeing a dizzy being that stuck upon removal. anyone ever had that problem or is it pointing to another problem?

hi jay, yes the new one slides in and out no problem and i agree a smear of anti sieze will go on it when it's final fitting time.

I've had salvage yard motors & motors that have been sitting a long time stick & break.
-
I just never experienced that before. I learned something new today. ;)
-
had similar on a 351c but got that one out whole, used a heat gun on the block around the distibutor.
-
i finally finished porting the intake and got the motor together this week with the new dizzy and coil and 750 dp carb. it revs much crisper now, just need to book it in at the rolling road for setting up.
-
hi all, it's been a while as i've changed jobs and had to move from my workshop of 25+ years and condense everything into my home workshop. but the good news is the anglia's booked in for a rolling road session on the 20th of this month. i'll let you know the result. it'll be nice to run it without any misfires and see what it'll do. regards, neil.
-
Good luck with the tuning session, Neil!
-
thanks jay, it'll be nice to have it rev clean like it should.
