Title: Thrust Plate - OEM or Torrington?

I am in the process of purchasing a new timing chain set and thrust plate set up for my 427SO.

My cam is a roller hydraulic.  The car will be 90% street 10% drag strip.

Should I stay with the OEM style thrust plate or go Torrington roller given it's mainly a street machine?

I always use a factory thrust plate or a new thrust plate from Pioneer.

I used a Torrington on my truck engine.
Admittedly overkill but was looking to take as much friction as possible out of the system as I idle in traffic ALOT.
Have almost 20k on it and it's a runner.
Wouldn't be afraid of either way, though most would prolly say "why bother".

I have always used OEM thrust plate. But my Milodon gear drive uses torrington bearing. First time for me to ever use one....

Torrington....it's worth at least 50HP! Well, a Chevy guy would say that....LOL!  ;)

Howdy

Just a quick tech tidbit I rarely hear about.  we fussed with roller bearing on many FE parts at Ford racing and fit every thrust plate by surface grinding them. I must have surface bround, shucks, hundreds maybe. But the orrington was just coming in and is more hor 90% Drag or other high zoot builds, sure, and this was all relevant when the FE got modernized and updated at SHELBY in the 90s

Many solid Ford guys were chiming in and so a new part was chosen and works real nice

Hundreds of fast and reliable all aluminum FE's in COBRA's or Hot Rods run a bronze plate that only SHELBY sells to my knowledge

They retain oil well, have less friction and are more reliable over a lot of time and street use, endurance use, and road racing.   The caged roller was ruled out in favor of bronze.

It's a nice part and I think more guys could use one

So stock, roller and another choice,,,,the slippery red metal that holds then sweats your earl   (oil)!   he he   You kind of 'bush' both working areas

We will run blown fuel nostalgia cars saturday night under the lights, Several 5 second Mustangs will be there, plus a bunch of 60s FORD muscle

HUge crowds too, they pack the stands
