Title: Drag racing again after 30 years
Post by: 10w30dna on September 10, 2015, 02:44:44 PM
Only had my new toy out 4 times so far. Sorry, not FE this time. Ford Motorsport Boss 351 block, aluminum heads, etc. C4 trans Single 850 carb ,93 octane .  Got some .06 reaction times and lots of .10 times. Car goes 11.50 @ 119 and I still use dual points and stock Ford coil. I custom build Ford distributors and want to know I am able to provide good results. I believe this combo will end up around 11.20 @ 122 mph with a little more tweaking.
10-4-15 UPDATE... Best ET 11.229 ( on a 11.24 dial dammit @ 121.5 MPH ) still using factory dual points! Just had to share..........

Cool! Nice cars....we need to see both cars outside with some bigger views! Intake looks like a Scorpion/TFS unit. Is it?

+1!  My '66 500 was the same color originally; I think Ford called it Sahara Beige  :D

Intake is an Edelbrock Super Victor. Holley is 850 stock out of box w/vac secondary. Not tried any tuning yet on carb. Best ET was on 93 degree day w/high humidity. I am going to fab a " Batwing" air cleaner like old NASCAR and get some fresh air from cowl. Torque converter is a 3200 RPM unit and I think I can go up to 3800-4000. This is a "stab + steer, let it shift" racer. Pulls the front wheels, which the fans love. The background cars are a couple restored '69 Mach I Super Cobra Jet cars I have had for a very long time. My earliest FE is the '67 Galaxie 428/4 speed I bought new when I was 19. Still have it! ( you do the math) Nothing feels better than strapping it on some young kid with a Chevy.............. the 119 MPH fools a few that think I ran out of gas @ 1/8th, ;)

Cool! Like the batwing idea too but replicating that curved front is a bitch! Maybe use an existing cleaner and add the wings? I'm thinking old '56-'60 Caddy as they had a gigantic yet tall base. Junkyard? CM5 verified that Ralph Moody of H-M fame did use a lot of Caddy parts early on and this apparently was a model for their hand-made cleaners, which are in unobtanium territory now.

Beautiful machines, talk about the complete collection 8).  2 for the street and 1 to release that pent-up aggression in a far more legal manner.  Thanks for posting the photos.
