Title: ford feaver classic..
Post by: fekbmax on September 04, 2015, 12:17:48 PM
Just over a month away. All ford drag racing, car show and swap meet.  The 422 motorsports guys with there awesome Fe's . Ill be in the swap meet area Saturday and sunday selling some FE race stuff as well as some other junk. Its a good time every year and normally the weather is really nice. Theres a slight chance that the pale rider or one of the other Booze brothers cars may be there,  Charlie told me last year they still had all that stuff and could be blowing the dust off it soon for fun. Would be awesome seeing one of those galaxies busting off a mid 8 second run.

Wow, Buds Creek takes me back.

thats to bad. had hoped they would blow the dust off one of those 63 1/2's and bring it out. 422 puts on a good show though. still worth the trip ,,, to me anyway.

Military adjacent ;D
My dad was one of the Lockheed team that developed the sub hunting sonar technology in the 60s.
So we were stationed at Pax river for a long time.

One of my favorite tracks...wish I could make it.  Unfortunately Mrs Stang has a cruise planned and it doesn't involve anything with wheels

well im just about all loaded up and ready to go. gonna take a bunch of stuff up for the swap meet and see what i can unload. got rid of most all the good stuff last year so im not looking at selling much but many times in the past i have went with just basic junk and done very well so there's hope. really if it just helps pay for the trip ill be happy. just be glad to get away for a few days and see some good ford drag racing. maybe next year ill be able to participate if im lucky.

Some of the cool non FE cars.
Sorry guys, I suck at taking pictures and to be honest it's hard to get around and even see much racing while having to sit with all my swap meet stuff. Crowd was down this year but still alot of racing. Swap meet wasn't as big as it has been in the past. I did fare  and made $1,100.00 plus got a few bites on a couple other things so with the nice weather and all it was worth the trip.

The Pantera was very cool and was a driver to. A close look and you can tell he isn't afraid to drive it around..

Hummm...I think I see Jay's next Dragweek project - a cammer powered Pantera! It's been done already, a SOHC drops right in there, no problem lol. Anyone remember the "MegaBuck" twin turbo'd 427 SOHC Pantera? Here's the feature from Hot Rod.

I think the problem would be making the transaxle live in an application like that...

Cammer Pantera! Wow!

I do think Jay you could do this and have a racing level transaxle live quite well. Hey, those late 60's-early 70's Can-Am cars ran all-aluminum 497 CID BBC's at about 700 hp had a wet weight of 1,700 lbs. and they lived. Fortin makes the modern version:  http://www.fortinracing.com/transaxles.html

Gulp though on the prices......as someone else said, it really is fun spending Jay's money! LOL

And of course he will need 2 so he has a spare to bring on Dragweek. Simple engineering exercise to have them increase the torque capacity another notch I'm sure. They could call it the "J" model.

Fortin is local to me, and I know a lot of guys who run their gearboxes in off road. Don't know how they would hold up in drag racing, but they get beat pretty badly in 700hp off road cars and hold up there.

Mendeola is another popular one.

I have worked on Panteras and its the worst low quality rustbuckets
i have ever seen. The bodywork is horendus door pillar with 1/2 inch lead on them
to get the door to fit. Missmatched panels thats grinded through and just hammered
down and leaded over. The hole for the  air in to the heater not cut open.
No wounder he had problem with fogged up windows!! Expanding foam
in the beams that absorbed water so they were as sturdy as a cracker
foam rubber in the roof so the roofs is always rusted away from the
inside and on and on
So the gearbox may hold up for a SOHC beacuse it would rip the
body to screads before the gearbox colaps
I dont want my worst enemy to be a Pantera owner
Reason ford stop selling them were the inferior quality
Rant ower but they are junk
Elvis did the right thing when he shot his Pantera
