I saw a pair of these yesterday. They seem as light as stamped steel. Haven't seen them before, are they worth $400?

I don't think they are quite as light as stamped steel, but pretty close. I don't have anything accurate enough to weigh them on to check. They are die cast and much lighter and thinner than the sand cast FE valve covers like the original '67 Shelby GT 500 Cobra LeMans covers. Personally I like the 428 "Snake" die cast covers better myself, but that's just my opinion and both look good. Both styles are being reproduced and are much less than $400, and I think that's keeping the price of originals down. I've never paid anywhere close to $400 myself, but I guess I don't know the going rate. A lot of parts people knew were special years ago were usually saved before a car got scrapped - Aluminum intake manifolds, Holley carbs and the fancy valve covers to name a few, and many survive today.

Stock valve covers on CJ and SCJs in 1969-70, and were prone to cracking along the lips from over tightening. Only worth that amount if you are going for a concours restoration, or you simply want them. The reproductions are quite nice and you can get them plain or polished from Branda and Scott Drake the last I checked. Joe-JDC

They are way out of my price range. Being that thin the lip was the first thing I looked at. They were straight, I like the M/T personly. I bought that Cobra Jet intake to try on my truck. When I got there he pulled out a pair of C3AE-C heads that of course I had to have. Decided on the way home I spent too much so I put the intake up for sale to break even. I am Chris and I am a FEoholic.
