Title: block repair?

Can this block be repaired or is it just a BIG paper wieght?

That can be fixed, but the question will be is it worth the cost.  What kind of block is it?  If its a 428, it would probably worth the repair.  If it's a 390, I think you'd be better off getting another one.

To fix that you will need to find a cast iron welding shop, get a patch welded in, and then get the block remachined.  The welding operation will warp the block surfaces, so it will probably have to have the oil pan rail re-machined and also the main saddle align-honed.

It is a virgin bore 428 I was hoping it could be repaired thanks Jay.

Yes 428's and crossbolts are worth doing. I have three in my shop right now I have to weld up. I repair them, what is your location?

What part of iowa and what would be aprox price to fix. How often do u get to iowa.

I do have a donor block thats already chopped up that I could use again for that one. And that would be a pretty easy fix/repair. I also purchased a new welder and makes for a much better weld now.
