Several years ago I got my hands on a copy of this issue (I collect a lot of 60's area mags on the SOHC and the Cobra) and I'm getting around to sharing the scans I took of it so many years ago. Enjoy. Open the image in a new tab to see it full size.

I found this same issue as well as several other interesting ones at an antique mall. I paid $2.50 each. I snagged all the cool ones I could find.

Dang, you got a steal. Old mags sell between $16-23, average is like $18. I have well over a dozen old mags, several purchased for $18 not including shipping. I just purchased a Car Craft issue for $25 including shipping, in order to get the whole scoop on the gear drive. I have like 5 mags that feature the Cobra and like another 8 on my wish list that cover the Cobra. I own both Hot Rod issues that cover the SOHC, this one and the newer one covering the all aluminum SOHC build. In digital form, I also have the SAE paper on the SOHC and the engine manual, both in pdf. The engine manual pdf was created by me from scans that a contact sent me.

I walked out carrying a nice stack of old magazines. ;D I realized it was a bargain, so I loaded up.

What are some of the good ones you got?

Here are some of the decent FOMOCO featured ones. I'm sure I have some more somewhere. One doesn't have a cover. Somehow I ended up with two of the Jan. '65 issues. Bonus! ;D

I have an issue of Cars magazine, November of 1964, "First Report on Ford's OHV 427". It is interesting in several respects. The white Galaxie shown in the CARS article looks to be the same one pictured in some of the magazines shown here. It has the low spark plug position, but with lots of pictures under the car it is clear that the block is NOT a sideoiler 427, because the sideoiler passage is not there on the block pictures. Also, they show external oil drainbacks from the heads, down to the pan. At one point there was speculation that the sideoiler 427 block was designed and built originally to accomodate the SOHC engine. Always wondered if that were true...

The sideoiler was made around the same time, it's possible that the sohc had something to do with it. The sohc was made in 64 and I think the first sideoiler blocks came out in 65...
