What is the advantage of a 482 over a 496 FE, how much more power is being made considering all parts are the same??? is the reliability the same, power difference, street drivabilty, etc...

The 496 has a slightly larger bore than the 482.  It's 4.31"x4.25" compared to 4.25"x4.25" for the 482.  So the 496 has slightly more breathing potential which could allow it to make slightly more power.  It's not really a significant difference.  There are many other variables that will influence the power much more.

Street driveability will be slightly better with the 496, but not enough to even notice, if the same parts are used in both the 496 and the 482.

Reliability won't be affected either, unless a factory block is being used.  In that case the 482 has a big advantage.  Thicker cylinder walls.  A factory 427 block at a 4.31" bore would likely have very thin cylinder walls which would likely crack.  If using an aftermarket block then it again makes no significant difference.

That's what I figured, I like the square bore 482 just because the crank is cheaper...

Crank is same price regardless.  Only difference between 482 and 496 is bore size.  It would probably take a dyno to differentiate between the two in regards to horsepower.  You normally don't have any valve shrouding issues with 2.250"/1.750" valves and a 4.250" bore, so if you wanted to get completely anal about it, you're probably looking at ((hp/ci)*delta ci).  Pretty miniscule.

I'd say the big thing is, if you have a stock 427 block, you can build a 482 or even 489, but bigger than that you'll likely be splitting cylinders

With an aftermarket block, mo' inches = mo 'power :)

More ways to get there..........I have several 4.250 bore, 4.375 strokers that are also "496".  Everything else constant, it will make a little more torque  (+/- 15 lbs/ft)  than a 4.250, and would not be as happy above 6500 rpm as a 4.25 stroke, provided the same cam and cylinder head cross-section are used.  In street engines, you would probably never know much difference in the two.  The bigger bore/4.25 stroke 496 will probably make 15-20 more HP up top if peaks are 6000 to 6500, and the block has the integrity to go 4.310.   Going higher... more cylinder head would be a requirement to realize high rpm gains from the extra inches.
