I was going to buy a new F-150 to replace my 2005 F-150 with the 5.4 tow package. I was jazzed at the thought of a 6.2 tow package in a truck weighing 700 lbs or so less. So what does Ford do? Drop the 6.2 out of the F-150 line. Ain't towing with a 5.0. Ain't owning a 6-banger. It's against my religion. Ain't buying a Titanic F-250 just to get the 6.2.
Way to go, Ford!!! yay yay yay not
So I says, OK, lemme buy a GT instead. Wrong. Evidently, I have whip up some voodoo spells or WMD's to get Ford to paint a Mustang in Bronze Fire, which they offer on almost everything else but. The people at the dealership called me bad words for asking. Really bad words, like when kids see me talking to myself in the checkout line at Walmart.
Way to go, Ford!!! yay yay, oh what the he!!

I also had a 05 150 with a 3 valve 5.4 & the 5.0 would eat it right up. don't sell the 5.0 short if you didn't drive one. discontinuing good stuff is usually GM's mo. but occasionally Ford has a brain fart.

Which 5.0 in what truck are you referring to? Gears?

2014 f-150 ext. cab with a 5.0 & 3.73 gears. striped it for a customer & took it for a ride. way faster than my 5.4. he also claimed 20mpg, sold my 05 & never replaced it. thinkin about a flex.

Way faster but what about off-the-line grunt? I need torque in a manly, classy vehicle that I can more discretely dispose of bodies without people pointing at the bed of my truck and wetting their undies. I know! Mercury Commuter!!
I think most of the new cars are "cheating" by using 4-something first gear ratios in their transmissions.

The 5.4 is a absolute dog in my book. A new f150 with a 5.0 vs a 2005 F150 5.4 there really is not comparison. Any gear any speed
The 5.4 makes 300 hp @ 5000 rpm
365 Tq @ 3750
The new ford lineup The smallest v6 avail in a pickup would probably tow a trailer faster than a 5.4 would go
Engine type 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 5.0L Ti-VCT V8
Engine Control System Electronic Electronic Electronic electronic
Horsepower (SAE net@rpm) 325 @ 5750 rpm 365 @ 5000 rpm 282 @ 6250 rpm 385 @ 5750 rpm
Torque (lb.-ft. @rpm) 375 @ 3000 rpm 420 @ 2500 rpm 253 @ 4250 rpm 387 @ 3850 rpm

Makes you wonder why they don't do a 5.4 eco-boost.
Some jagoff with Texas plates on a honking big Ram was weaving his way across 3 lanes of traffic, coming up fast behind others, tailgating until he could get around. Chrome flame pattern grill, loud mufflers, lots of hurry up and wait at traffic lights. Sturm und Drang for miles. Why? Don't know, he wasn't really getting ahead.
Anyway, he ended up next to my 1990's 200k 4-banger Cavalier at a red light. Blew him away, no contest. I got through the next light, he didn't. Power is relative.

I have a '14 F150 extra cab 5.0 and it's plenty strong, upper 300's in HO and TQ. With the manual select and 6 speed auto with tow package (trans temp gauge on the dash is a nice item) it has plenty of grunt.
Sounds like a fish story, but I was recently cutting firewood and we needed to drag a downed roughly 35 foot locust tree out of a tangled mess. Hooked a chain around the base and pulled it like a bad tooth. Most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned too, my bride prefers it for the ride and room.
