Title: Dyno results curiosities
Post by: turbohunter on May 10, 2015, 04:53:38 PM
Thanks for starting the Dyno and 1/4 mile results child boards Jay.
The posts are very interesting.
One question I have is, I don't see any combos with 6.8 rods ( save one on the TP by Brent )
Matter of fact I don't recall seeing one at all in the last few years (except mine for my truck  :) and the one by Brent).
Is there a reason for that?

Marc, actually the 511" FE I used in Drag Week, and shown in the dyno results section, used 6.8" rods.  The only downside I can see is that sometimes with a 6.8" rod the pin will protrude into the oil ring groove, necessitating the use of lower rails in the ring groove, to support the ring.  With a 6.7" rod and 4.25" stroke, you don't have that issue, so I think that is why it is the standard combination.

When I ordered a stroker from Scat, I ordered the 4.125" crank, 6.800" rod, and they sent the same piston as used for the 4.250"/6.700" combo.  I personally have had great success with using the longest rod possible in all my stroker combinations.   Joe-JDC

I had a couple of 6.800" rod engines in the dyno section.....the Tunnel Port and the 427 LR.

Saw the TP engine Brent and missed the LR.
Is it so bad to have to use support rails?
And Joe, I always figured the mechanical advantage of a longer arm is good too.

No, it's not bad to use support rails....no problem whatsoever.
