Title: Opinions on Fel Pro 8554PT?
Post by: CDXXVII on January 12, 2012, 09:47:19 PM
Any down side to the 8554 PT head gasket on a street 427 with a standard bore and iron heads?

What's the up side of the Ford Racing head gaskets? Is it because they can accomodate a large overbore?

The Ford Racing/Fel-Pro 1020 gasket has a flattened steel fire ring around the combustion chamber that does a better job of sealing under high pressures.  The passenger car gasket you mention will work perfectly fine in a moderate street application - something under 500HP should be no big deal.  I just like having extra insurance....

be carefull on headgasket/bolt/stud choice, let your compression ratio determine, not price

Dean, are you holding back a story here? Which gasket was it that failed on you? Why?

Factory compression is about 11:1.

Barry, would the fire ring on the high pressure gasket aggrivate problems with valve seat distortion when torquing the head bolts on iron heads?
