Title: New toys that will benefit us
Post by: turbohunter on April 21, 2015, 06:21:44 PM
As some of you know, my brother (Ryan) owns SCE and SPM gasket companies.
He has wanted to contribute to the FE cause because his brother (me) is a dyed in the wool Ford guy and he loves old junk too. And if he can make a buck or two, all the better.
We recently brain bashed on a new FE head gasket, made out of new materials which some of you guys gave input on and have seen and or felt in your hands. The gasket was a smaller bore deal (4.250). I have the first one running on my truck now.
He knows that he has to have a bigger bore set (4.40) after talking to Barry, Jay and many others.
I kept after him wondering when he was going to order the tooling to be made. For a while he just gave me a grin and a "wouldn't it be nice if......".
Well today he received the "if". A beautiful new Haas tool making deal (I don't know what the heck it's called, I'm a stupid camera operator). So now he doesn't have to order tools to be made from another company and wait. He can just make them himself and poof, FE fun.
Upshot is that a big bore FE head gasket will soon be made. As well as other stuff.
Here's a couple shots of it arriving and getting set.

Wow, a VF-4!  That's the same CNC machine that I have in my shop Marc, that you saw machining intake adapters when you visited.  Except mine was new in 1996  :o

I figured you'd know what the deal was with it. ;)
Ryans pretty geeked about it.

Kids and their toys ;D
I watch these things run at a friends local machine shop. He has 3 of them :o  I wish I knew how to design stuff in CAD and Solid Works, but I'm much more proficient in screwing up computers than being productive with them.

I'll be trying out that gasket set soon after returning from the FE Reunion.

Jay, I took note of what you were running when Marc & I visited last summer..  ;)
We use SolidWorks for modeling and right now, MasterCam but we're moving away from MC toward the AutoDesk Inventor/HSM package for our CAM. Solidworks is what Karl (our Purdue engineer in the Iowa plant) learned on but my son Caleb (in the pics) who makes the tooling in California has worked with the AutoCad (now AutoDesk) software for years. AutoDesk Inventor and SolidWorks trade 3D modeling files seamlessly so we'll have seats in both software packages so both designers can be in their most comfy element.
Brent, yup we're big flag waivers too!
Thanks to all here who have contributed from your knowledge and experience, your input is always welcome.

Ryan, I think you have one-upped me on that  ;)
