Title: Engine Builder Magazine 431FE 500+HP comparo Fuel Inj vs Carb
Post by: Qikbbstang on March 16, 2015, 09:26:28 AM
Admired the job the tricked Holley 650 HP did against a 1200cfm rated throttle body.  This is a link to PDF, If the PDF does not open to FE article, page flip to page 32. BTW article was cover story:

I might have missed it, but what heads were they using? What were the cam specs? Why only a 4.125 crank? Inquiring minds want to know.

It would seem that if nothing were changed and the engine was originally optimized for a carb that gains would be minimal. Port configuration, chamber design and compression all can be optimized for fuel injection giving better gains than just simply changing the carb for a throttle body.

Interesting comparison.  It would be neat to see a comparison between an expertly tuned carb setup vs. an expertly tuned EFI setup, i.e. rather than the self learning type EFI.  I suspect a distributorless setup would unlock a little more fine tuning potential with respect to the EFI? - Garrett
