Title: Torqueing the Crankshaft Damper Bolt
Post by: rockittsled on January 27, 2015, 09:03:38 AM
What do you suggest I use to lock the engine while breaking loose and torqueing the crankshaft damper bolt while the engine is installed in front of a C6? Would a piston stop work or might it damage a cast piston?

Hit it with an impact gun.
Or take the cover off the converter and wedge the converter.

What Howie said. Or if a 1/2 impact isn't available maybe you could borrow one of these from a local Autozone or Oreilly......

in a pinch, I've already used a pipe wrench on the crank spacer behind the balancer to hold the crank from turning, but it will leave a mark.

A chain tong wrapped around pulley works. Cut up a mud flap or tire to protect pulley.

I've got one of those Lisle flywheel turner/lockers that Kevin linked.
They are the cats meow.
Except I bought mine off a Maatco truck and prolly paid almost twice that. ::)
