It's AJ Foyt's 80th birthday! Attached is a photo from the Houston Chronicle dated 1967 that says he is checking out the new engine for his boat. So check out those zoomies! '67 was a good year for AJ; he won the Indy 500 for the second time and also won LeMans with Dan Gurney in a Ford Mk. IV.
Hope you enjoy!

I'm pretty sure that boat is still around with the blown SOHC. I remember seeing a photo not too many years ago. Maybe in Hot Rod magazine? Cool picture of just the engine!

Cool shot. I wonder what the thing hanging off the back of the bell is? Looks like a starter, but the stock starter is still visible.

Maybe 2 starters? Not sure why you would need 2 though; it shouldn't be that tough to crank a blown Cammer should it? I was thinking the one hung off the back of the bell might be a generator but there are 2 solenoids so they both must be starters.

It is a starter, wound to rotate opposite the one in the stock position. H/M saw the need for dual starters on high compression marathon boat engines where starting a heat soaked engine was a problem.
