Hi new member here from Minnesota with a 62 Galaxie 500 that is a father son project. I was going to install a 460/C6 into it but decided to find a 390/C6 to replace the 352 cruise o matic. Thinking a 445 stroker kit want it to be a strong street bruiser and take it to the strip occasionally. Here is a link to photobucket of a few pictures of it

Nice looking project...are you the father or the son!

Welcome to the forum, and great car! Where are you located in Minnesota?

I am the father, just sold my son's Arctic cat kitty cat snowmobile that he out grew and he wanted to put the money into car. I think he knew if he did that it will be harder for me to sell it. So now I definitely need to start working on it. I am located in Rosemount 30 miles south of the cities. Thanks for the compliments I picked it up during back to the 50's weekend this year.

Jayb where are you located in Minnesota? Like the Galaxie and Mustang but partial toward your Galaxie. Still both beautiful cars.

I'm up in Rogers, northwest of downtown Minneapolis.

62's are of course the best Galaxies...

OK, I have to ask -- and this seems like the place -- why did Ford go with the spelling G-A-L-A-X-I-E and not G-A-L-A-X-Y? I've asked this of Galaxie owners at car shows over the last few years and have yet to come across one who can explain it. (not trying to be a wiseguy, I have no idea either)

Was it the name of a 1950's concept car? Probably just a marketing gimmick.

I'll take a shot at it, after a bit of thought you can't "trademark" Galaxy because one already exists, but Galaxie is a whole 'nother deal. Or the guys in die cast may have been a little too juiced up to properly cast the required "y" ;D. It has been my experience that things like that can happen when alcohol is involved.

I think you are right. According to some of the Ford sites, it originated from "La Galaxie" which was used on a concept car built in the Edsel building. Also they spelled it wrong on purpose to bring attention to the new car. It was marketing appeal surrounding the excitement of the space race.
Sounds good to me ;D
