Title: B/SA 1969 Mustang

The engine has been out a long time. Tomorrow I will take the bellhousing and starter to my engine builder so he can install it on his dyno Monday. Tuesday or Wednesday we should be making a few dyno pulls. The engine is for B/SA with cast iron heads and intake.

Love that motor mount idea. Looks like a good solid design that won't let loose like a factory job will, yet still retains some vibration absorption. Keep us posted on the dyno results.

Rusty, what kind of harmonic balancer is that?  I've never seen that one before...

I see you don't have end stands, what rocker shaft do you use?

The rocker shafts and spacers were on the 1968 SS/FA Mustang I bought from Hubert Platt in 1969 or were on Ken McLellen's 1969 Cobrastang SS/G I bought in 1973.

We did not have a very good dyno session. We only got to make three good pulls before the water brake broke on the dyno. The plan was to compare the stock Cobra Jet 735 with the Quick Fuel replacement. We made the three pulls with the 735. 493 HP, 500 HP and 502 HP all around 5900.

I forgot to mention we made 502 hp on 93 octane gas and the timing was set at 34 degrees

Rusty, do you know exactly what broke on the dyno, and what kind of dyno it was?  As a dyno operator, I'm curious about that.  Was it the valve that lets water out of the absorber that gave up?

Sorry to hear about the issues, but those sound like pretty promising numbers...

Mike Ulrey used to modify the stock CJ 735 cfm to make quite a bit more HP, but he was kinda coy about the details.  I think it was mostly in the front boosters and metering block.  The carbs were still NHRA legal.

Hi Jay,

It is a Land and Sea dyno and I will let you know what went wrong. It was making a squealing noise and started leaking water. He has not looked at it since Wednesday. He needed to assemble a couple of customer engines that are not going on the dyno.

I'm happy with those numbers. I was going to pick it up and put in the Mustang to go to a car show in a couple of weeks but changed my mind. I would like for him to have a little more time on the dyno to see what he can get with a little tuning and race gas and a few other changes.
