We went to a wedding in Cape Breton (Keltic Lodge) this weekend.
We decided a while back that we would take the Fairlane so I halted work on the track up grades and set it back up
for a highway run. Glad I did.
We stayed at the Marvel Mystery Oil Cabins (Maven Gypsy Cabins) http://www.themavengypsy.com/ , non car people never get the humour. ::)
The cabin is 15 miles from the Lodge and all up hill with some pretty steep climbs and very tight turns. Perfect.
I did the run 7 times, my wife is the mother of the bride. ;D
For the full tour we set off at noonish on Saturday with 3 full size humans and the trunk FULL.
The trail is a magnet for Harley (Motorcycles in general) guys and bicycle riders.
Doing a bit of showing off I drove around a few Bikers. ::)
A good test of all the systems on the car.
The climb is sea level to 1500 feet in a pretty short distance.
I have done the Rockies in a FE powered car many years ago and The Cabot Trail is much steeper.
The old girl ran great. Never saw more than 210* on the gauge doing some serious slow speed hair pin turn hill climbs.
Definitely worth the drive in the car or on the bike.
The Trail

One of the very kool things you will see when you start or end the trail.

The reason the Bikes come.

It's great road! Reminds of BC roads. My wife and I did the Cabot Trail just months after the Confederation Bridge was completed, 1997. We started at Baddeck continued on the East side to the top and down the West side. I was driving my '94 Escort. Wished I had my 427 Johnex! My Son and Daugher-in-Law pedddled their bicycles along Cabot Trail for their honeymoon and stayed at the Keltic Lodge for couple of nights.

Only one thing wrong with this post. Not enough pics of the Fairlane!

Wow, beautiful scenery and a cool road to run on, safely of course 8)
Nice post, Howie. My favorite trips are through curvy, twisty roads through the Appalachian Mountains. Really a blast in my GT or any good handling car. That looks like it would have been a fun cruise, and MUCH cooler in a Fairlane than any bike :) You just can't beat beautiful scenery like that.
