Title: More valve spring questions
Post by: sumfoo1 on August 02, 2014, 08:48:14 PM
Big heavy valves big 2.25/1.73 solid roller cam .674" what springs to use?

If I went to lighter valves would bee hive springs work or do I still need almost  300lb seat pressure springs with dampers etc?

It is always safe to go with the camshaft manufacturer's recommendations.  That will be a good starting point.  You need to know installed height, retainers used, and go from there.  Joe-JDC.

I went with Comp's recommendations on one solid roller several years back and had valve float on the dyno at 6000 RPM.  As a result I am rather circumspect about spring recommendations from the cam manufacturers.  For your combination a Comp 943 spring would probably work well, 220-240 on the seat and 550-600 over the nose.
