I know this has been covered before but in looking back I did not find a solid answer. I have a set of bridged bar hydraulic roller lifters and cam already, what I would like to do is use my lifters on one of Barry's 254/260 .670/.670 @ 114* camshafts. Will my lifters work or do I have to ditch the lifters also? Thanks Jon

Terminology??? Solid camshaft as in solid lifter camshaft? If so, then definitely NO. Flat tappet camshafts, either hydraulic or solid use a taper/angle on the nose of the lobe to twist a lifter in the bores, and as such cannot be used with roller lifters. Ramp rates are different between hydraulic roller camshafts and solid roller camshafts. When I spoke with Crane Cams representative I was told that I could use solid rollers on a hydraulic roller camshaft if I tightened the lash to .004", but not to use hydraulic roller lifters on a solid roller camshaft. No, sorry for the confusion. I was thinking of using my hydraulic rollers on a solid roller camshaft, that way I would not have to constantly readjust to keep it all within spec. I have another Fe that I could use the camshaft and lifters in but for ease of maintenance I am wondering if I could use the hydraulic rollers on a solid roller cam with a .670 lift? I suppose I could put some blue on the lobes and check for scarping on the lobe with the push rods out.

If its the other way around (Solid rollers on a Hyd Roller Shaft) you sure can! I would think that the ramp might be a little to aggressive for the Hyd Rollers on that Solid Roller shaft.... JMHO

Can't say I have experience here but others have asked the same question of the cam experts. A rough answer is a mild solid roller can successfully run hydro rollers due to ramps that aren't real aggressive. But I'd suspect your big .670 lift cam likely has very fast opening/closing ramps which may lead to very premature valve float. If you don't need to buy anything (missed if you did or did not ) it would be worth the experiment yet I'd sneak up on your rpm limit carefully as noted. JMO!

That is what I was thinking, the front and rear of the lifters would drag on the approach and downside of the lobe.
