Title: BBM Block arrived
Post by: bigswede442 on June 04, 2014, 12:03:32 PM
Drove down sunday to Washington state To meet my engine builder Dave and see my newly acquired BBM block. Talked to Doug last Tuesday and bought block, he had it crated and shipped off the next day to Washington arriving Friday. Doug was great to deal with. The block is a very stout looking piece and will be a great foundation for my 482 build. It will be heading to machinist shortly to get checked out as well to deck and hone. It looks like a very nicely cast piece. I'm also switching my cast iron tunnel ports to aluminum Dove tunnelports along with single plain 2x4 intake to dual plain 2x4 for a little more low end. Going have it Dynoed down in Seattle hopefully by end of the month and back in my 40 Ford by mid July. I will let you guy know what Machine shop report about block but at first glance looks like a well done piece. I took some pictures with iphone and will try to post. When I crossed border on monday The border guard looked at me like I was nuts asked why "I would drive 750 miles to have someone build a motor".I told him "becuase its not a small block Chevy". The border guard was probably a Chevy guy, so he didn't understand...

You'd think any border guard would be... law of averages and all... but it was my luck to be taking parts across the border and not wanting to pay huge taxes on high prices told the guy it was a 390 Ford block to which he said "a crossbolted one, eh ?" Luckily he i made the quip before i made up a phony low value so i had to fess up the receipt and pay on the whole amount.

The problem is not getting parts into the states, it will be getting it back into Canada with the finished engine. The Sentinels guarding the gulag which we call Canada is who I'm worried about. Some parts bought, some old parts traded for credit with my small engine builder might be end up being a head ache when I cross. Harper wants his cut and could make this a pain in my ass when I go to pick up engine in July
