So sorry I havent posted much. I'll do my best to change that! I'm picking it up tomorrow and have plans for it! When things slow down for me. When ever that is LOL. Anyways, I should have said Boat Ride! I love the water and use to spend every weekend out on Shasta Lake with Friends and my Family. I want to get back that life I use to have. Tough by today's standards.
So here she is. Its a 67 Rayson Craft with a 390 in it. It has all the Edelbrock stuff. Timing cover, exhaust logs, bell housing and a street master intake!
My plans are to stuff my Mallory 25 series Dizzy with a Ignitor II in it, Plug wires, Mallory 6AL with the E-Coil, my moded 750DP (more like 810cfm) with adjust a jets (awesome setup). My old school set of polished up Ed valve covers. All in Wes Adams Fashion LMAO! You guys know me... I cant leave anything alone...
In the future, Tunnel Ram (The Dove for now but I would like to buy Jay's adapter for it) , the 427 425Hp cam, roller rockers. I do have a brand new stout Erson custom Hyd Roller that I could also use as well.... Who knows LOL Open to criticism Guys! You know that... Enjoy the pics....

That is an awesome project, Wes! We need to see a pic of that thing in the water, with a big roostertail behind it ;)
-
Fantastic stuff Wes 8). Just one more reason to remember the drain plug goes in at the stern before you launch :). I'm with Jay on the action photos, looks like you're about to have a lot of fun.

I had the exact same boat over 20 yrs ago......even the color scheme was similar - mine had an L-88 in it with a velvet drive trans.....after about 55-60mph (80+ top speed) the fins came out of the water and you best not try to steer.....mine had a hydraulic foot pedal and fixed tabs - due to the latter, you had to finesse it out of the hole, or risk going over! use to run it on lake george, NY early in the am due to a 55mph speed limit.....good times! have fun!
-
Thanks Guys! I bought it because it has an FE in it. :o ;D
There are some super fast boats out on Shasta Lake. Not going to try to compete with that. 100+ MPH boats. I'm going for the cool, old school look that you dont see anymore. An with a FE in it... That makes it really unique!
I'll post pictures for you guys but I also have a Go Pro 3 Black edition... So.... How about some video then!? LOL

Nice Nice! We have a '69 G hull Rayson Craft that my dad bought off the showroom in 1969. Ours has a HMS-prepped High Riser in it. Like you, when time allows, it will go back in the water. Mine is still in great shape. The color scheme is the exact opposite--white with metallic blue stripes. Those boats are "safe" to about 100 mph with enough engine, and right conditions. Yours most likely has a 12 degree strut, which tends to make the rear of the boat lift at high speed, which is not what a person wants to happen in a V-drive. With 18% overdrive and a 2-blade prop, ours would kiss 100 mph back in the day. Three blades are the ticket for normal runabout duties.....Probably 11 diameter 15 pitch and 18% overdrive. A good 390 will get close to 80 mph like that, and do it safe. If you need any ideas on plate adjustment or other v-drive stuff, let me know. I have a huge soft spot for a good V-drive.....you never get over the whine if you grew up in one!
Those hulls make a great ski-boat. The later design Cole and Hondos with 7,8,9 degree drop-through struts, adjustable plates, and runner bottoms are the deal for high speed, but the engines stick way up in the boat, and there is no back seat room. The Rayson Craft is super for what you want it to do. Do the hydraulic roller, even if you have to put 21% gears in it. It will spend lots of time idling around. There were no "strokers" when I was a kid. A guy might find out a 500 incher with 29% gears would cruise at 60 mph and not break the wallet.
-
Beautiful Rayson....You do realize you cannot ever sell it as it has become a family heirloom. You will it to your grandkids. :) Where at Shasta do you go?

We'll have to get you out in one of these Jay! No rooster tale from that baby, it has a PROP!! It is just waking up good when most jet-boats are all done. LOL.
-
Those cast alum scoops are worth gazillions on epay. ;D
I wish my lake was big enough for something like that. 10 HP max. :-[
Kool ride Wes. Have fun.

Sweet! Looking great Wes, glad you're back in the FE action scene =)

Obviously, I don't know much about boats LOL! Except that any boat with an FE is pretty cool...
-
Wow, a FE boat! Yes, that cast air cleaner top is worth a fortune on E-Pay.
Hey, a whole new venue for Jay's SOHC engines to play in. Maybe duplicate that old U-14 dual engined SOHC hydroplane racer but now with dual 6-71 blowers!

Looks awesome Wes! BOAT.... Bust....Out....Another....Thousand ;)

Kevin,
Thanks man! Your right about the price of doing any upgades on a boat! Watched people blow money on boat stuff for years... Guess I'm next! LOL
-
Jay,
You dont need to know anything about boats ??? ::).... The most important thing is like you said, "It has an FE in it!"
Just got some stuff in for this boat....

Going to need this for my moded 750DP. It has adjust a jets on it... So it makes it super long. Who cares when you can re jet in seconds...

Thats too bad, if it had been last year I had a nice set of M/T exhaust logs and bellhousing I could have sent you to match your air cleaner.
I'm going to be doing some work on a boat this summer as well. A friend of mine just bought a 69 Hondo with a Hilborn injected 430 MEL in it, with a 3 speed transmission. It runs, but needs a restoration. Should be a fun boat when it's finished...probably faster than I want to go on the water.

Any pics of that Hondo? Be sure to include pics of that injected 430. Thats something you don't see very often esp. since the hotboat world is dominated by brand X engines.

Will do, I'll get some next week. It runs, but isn't pretty yet.

Nice! I realy like boats like that. But where i live you
cant use it so often. Open sea with to ruff water most
of the time. Or the river with houses down by the beach
(they assemble a lynch mob when you have passed a couple of
times with open headers ;D ;D)
A friend had one about 15 years ago, I dont remember
what hull it was but had a Kinsler injected Scott Shaffirof
540.With water jet with rooster booster. That thing could
spray a lot of water!! 8)
I made a lot of brackets and mounts for that boat
and bronse rings for the jet drive
If i lived by a lake i would buy one myself
-
Wes, IMO you should go for the "sleeper" look. Wet, thru transom exhaust, single 4bbl on a Victor or Perf. RPM manifold and a engine mounted ski tow but the engine....how about a 445" FE, some compression and a decent solid roller. Something that'll spin in the 6500 range. Of course you'll need a steel prop, a 2 blade if you can live with the low rpm vibration. If in fact the boat has a 12* shaft angle you can work around and minimize tail-lift with a well selected prop. Methinks it has a 9* shaft angle as Rudy was pretty savvy on boat setups. What V-drive gearbox is in the boat? Seems most Raysons, Laveys and Sangers, etc of that era used toploader Casales.
-
RJP
Point taken. 445 would be super cool and I could buy myself a kit to do so. I could use my Hyd Roller and run Solid Roller lifters on it. I think for right now. I just need to get it up and running and have some fun with it. Maybe the cam, lifters, rockers can go in it. Along with the Tunnel Ram. Use what I got first and go from there.
I do have to say.... Tunnel rams are hard to beat out on the water. They seam to work the best... Besides that, it gives it an old school look! LOL
She is home now!
