Title: drum brake shoe upgrade?
Post by: fe66comet on May 17, 2014, 08:43:54 PM
I decided to use my Comet 9" 28 spline rear for another project, question is whether the the upgraded high performance drum brake shoes are worth it? I am using the rear behind a 400 cube Boss engine, about 450 HP. I was just wondering if the street version shoes were a big improvement and has someone used them? Thanks Jon

I have used them on several vehicles and they work as advertised - no fade, reduced effort at the pedal etc
On one set in particular it worked as well as adding a booster. I have gotten the brakes hot enough to boil the fluid without fade or damage to the lining

I guess I will go with the good ones, I am not going to have room for a booster and do not think disks in the back would be necessary  as the original drums were 8" and the 9" brake are 10". I am sure it will be plenty of stopping power with the good shoes.
