Title: CT hose clamps
Post by: Louie on May 17, 2014, 11:43:52 AM
I am going to install silicone hoses on my Mustang. I am using constant torque hose clamps and was wondering how far to tighten them. I assume I should tighten until the spring starts to collapse but how far? Half way compressed?

Obviously you don't want to fully compress the spring, because then you've just got a regular hose clamp.  I'd say half way is about right...

You tighten with a torque wrench.  A spring half-compressed is nowhere near enough.

Torque setting should be stamped on the clamp, if not look it up.  Can range from 50 in-lbs to 125 in-lbs.
